Houston police are investigating a violent robbery that took place in the early hours of August 1, when a poker player was attacked and stripped of his winnings shortly after leaving a local card room.
Attack Inside Hotel Lobby
Authorities report that the victim had just returned to the DoubleTree Hotel in the Galleria area around 5:40 a.m. Surveillance footage shows two men arriving in a white sedan, entering the lobby, and confronting the player near the elevators.
The video captures one suspect striking the victim in the head before he could react, while the second joined in to push him to the ground. The pair then grabbed his wallet and fled back to their vehicle, which was waiting with a driver outside.
Police Believe Victim Was Targeted
Investigators believe the suspects followed the man from the poker room, located roughly two miles from the hotel, after he won a significant amount of money. The victim’s exact winnings have not been disclosed.
Police are analyzing the surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspects, who remain at large.
Public Assistance Requested
Authorities have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Members of the public with relevant details are urged to contact local investigators or submit tips anonymously.
