Winter Takes Down Soverel Heads-Up to Lead the PLO Series II Race
Sean Winter added another major title to his résumé at the 2025 PGT PLO Series II, taking down Event #5: the $10,100 Pot-Limit Omaha Progressive Bounty at the PokerGO Studio. The event drew a strong 106-player field and built a prize pool of over $1 million. After an intense final table battle, Winter defeated fellow American pro Sam Soverel heads-up to scoop the trophy and a total payout of $277,300, including $155,000 in bounties.

A Stacked Final Table
Only five players returned for Day 2, and the lineup was as tough as it gets. Early on, Jesse Lonis, who’s been one of the breakout stars of 2025, hit the rail in fifth after a three-way all-in. His pocket kings couldn’t fade Nick Palma’s flush draw, and Palma’s spades got there to end Lonis’ run.
Next to go was Taylor Wilson. He got all his chips in against Winter holding top two pair on an A♠9♦5♠10♥ board. Winter had a ton of outs with both straight and flush draws, and the river 2♠ sealed the deal, giving him a flush and another bounty.
Nick Palma’s rollercoaster ride ended in third. After surviving a few key all-ins, he jammed the river on a J♦J♠3♥J♣8♥ board with A♥K♥8♦6♠, only for Winter to snap-call and show K♣J♥10♣2♠ for quads. With that knockout, Winter went into heads-up play against Soverel holding a healthy chip lead.
Heads-Up Showdown
Soverel managed to close the gap early in the duel, but Winter stayed composed and in control. The final hand brought all the drama: Soverel made a straight with J♦10♠8♥7♠ on a 10♦6♦2♥5♦9♥ board, but Winter’s A♦A♠Q♦9♦ had already turned the nut flush. Soverel called off the rest of his stack and had to settle for second place, taking home $122,300 plus $19,000 in bounties.
Winter Rises to the Top
The win marked Winter’s first title of the PGT PLO Series II and his fourth cash of the series, pushing him to the top of the leaderboard. With this victory, his live tournament earnings climbed to nearly $36.8 million.
“I’ve been close a few times this week, so it feels good to close one out,” Winter said after the win. “The bounty format adds a fun twist, it keeps the action going, and you’ve got to adapt on the fly.”
With just a few events left on the schedule, Sean Winter has firmly positioned himself as the player to beat in the PGT PLO Series II.
