Nacho Barbero Becomes Sponsored Pro with WPT Global

Argentina’s Nacho Barbero has officially joined WPT Global as a sponsored professional, marking his return to the ambassador ranks after parting ways with his previous sponsor earlier this year. The World Series of Poker bracelet winner confirmed the news during his recent appearance on The Chip Race podcast, where he was introduced as both a poker pro and WPT Global ambassador.

Although WPT Global has yet to formally announce the signing on its social platforms, Barbero was already spotted wearing the brand’s patch during the 2025 WSOP, signaling the partnership before it became public.

A Career of Highs and Controversies

Barbero, who has amassed more than $26 million in live tournament winnings according to official records, has been one of the most recognizable figures in the game. However, his journey has not been without setbacks.

In late 2024, a screenshot of Barbero playing online poker while having a popular solver tool open sparked controversy. Barbero denied any misconduct, explaining that he had been coaching students rather than using the software for real-time assistance. A subsequent internal investigation cleared him of wrongdoing, with poker pro Patrick Leonard also reviewing thousands of his hands and concluding he had not gained an unfair edge.

Despite the clearance, Barbero’s offhand remarks during a livestream interview reignited debate. His comments eventually led to the termination of his previous sponsorship, though he later admitted that both he and the company mishandled the situation.

A Second Chance with WPT Global

Now, with WPT Global extending him a fresh opportunity, Barbero expressed gratitude and optimism.

“I was surprised they signed me. Honestly, I made two stupid mistakes in the past, but everybody who knows me knows I would never cheat,” Barbero said. He added that his profile, personality, and television presence could help bring more visibility and new players to the platform.

“I think I’m very funny, they love my content. People like watching me on TV because I’m entertaining. I’m very happy that somebody gave me a second opportunity because I think I’m good for the game.”

Recent Tournament Results

Barbero’s most recent performances came at the 2025 WSOP, where he recorded five cashes. His deep runs included an eighth-place finish in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed and a fourth-place showing in the $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. High Roller, which earned him $280,030.

With WPT Global now backing him, Barbero looks set to continue building his legacy both on and off the felt.
