A Series Paused Amid Questions of Trust
The WSOP has taken down every released episode of its No Limit docuseries after learning that two quotes attributed to Alan Keating were created with AI. The issue surfaced when Keating posted on X, in a message later deleted, that “a half a dozen quotes of me were made by the production team using AI to put words in my mouth. They didn’t tell me they were doing it or what it would say.”
WSOP later released a statement on Sunday saying the organization had removed the videos and would re-edit them to meet its standards. The move effectively froze a project that had been positioned as a fresh approach to long-form poker storytelling.
The AI Line That Went Unnoticed
One of the AI-generated remarks appeared in Episode 5. It was slipped between Keating’s genuine comments, delivered through a recreation of his voice, saying, “I like putting people in tough spots and testing their will.”
Once the situation became public, all six existing episodes were pulled from the WSOP YouTube channel. There is still no timeline for when the revised versions will return, or when the unreleased episodes will debut. The full series was intended to span eight parts leading into the 2025 WSOP Paradise festival.
Inside the Editing Error
Dustin Iannotti, the creator of the series, acknowledged in a now-deleted post on X that the team used AI placeholders during post-production. He wrote that the total amount of AI material across Episodes 5 and 6 was about ten seconds and added, “As we’ve discussed with Alan directly, we should have consulted him on these editorial choices.”
Iannotti is the CEO of Artisans on Fire, the production company behind the series, which has also worked with Keating on his YouTube channel. Speaking about how the placeholders survived the final cut, he explained that several people came in to record over temporary lines as the release approached.
“Multiple people came in to record over their placeholder lines in the lead-up to the docuseries’ release,” he said. The team had expected Keating to record the final versions of those lines. “We created AI placeholders, intending to have Alan record final versions, but missed replacing them before the episode was finalized.”
He added that the intention was for Keating to deliver the lines himself, saying the team “dropped the ball on follow-through,” and that they had apologized privately. He noted their year-long working relationship and said they would never aim to put Keating in a position where he felt misrepresented.
Iannotti confirmed that the two identified moments were the only AI-generated quotes that made it into the released material.
A Project Waiting for Its Second Debut
WSOP plans to re-release the full series, though the timing remains unclear. For now, the series sits offline, awaiting a new edit and a chance to reintroduce itself.
