Pedro Padilha won the $50,000 NLH 8-Handed event at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in Jeju, defeating Nick Petrangelo heads-up to collect $1,400,860.
The tournament attracted 129 entries and generated a $6,450,000 prize pool. The victory made Padilha the fourth Brazilian player to win a Triton Poker Super High Roller Series title.
Before the final hand, Padilha and Petrangelo agreed to an ICM deal. Padilha locked up $1,350,860 and Petrangelo secured $1,201,140, with another $50,000 left for the winner.
Padilha began heads-up with 35 big blinds to Petrangelo's 17. Their final hand saw Petrangelo hold K4 against Padilha's Q8. A four on the flop put Petrangelo further ahead, but an eight on the turn moved Padilha in front and gave him the title.
A Final Table Played on Short Stacks
Alex Boika began the final table with 5,310,000 chips, or 66 big blinds, ahead of Petrangelo's 4,925,000 and Padilha's 3,930,000.
The stacks became increasingly shallow. Eight players were still left at the dinner break, when the average stack had fallen to 16 big blinds.
Sasaki Yoko finished ninth for $155,000 after her pocket nines ran into Petrangelo's pocket tens. Eelis Parssinen followed in eighth for $200,000, while Phil Ivey took seventh for $271,000 after his pocket nines lost to Petrangelo's pocket jacks.
Kiat Lee, who had already won an event in Jeju, was eliminated in sixth for $361,000 when Boika's pocket sixes beat his K8.
Padilha Moves Ahead Late
Padilha moved into a marginal chip lead five-handed after calling Yang Wang's all-in with A8 against A6. Wang finished fifth for $461,000.
Boika then eliminated Aren Bezhanyan in fourth. Bezhanyan had four big blinds when he called all-in with J10 against Boika's K4 and collected $574,000.
Three-handed play produced another change in momentum. Petrangelo first doubled through Boika, but Boika later beat Petrangelo's pocket aces with QJ after making a flush on the river.
Padilha was the player who ended Boika's run. With six big blinds, Padilha moved all-in over Boika's open holding AK. Boika called with A9, and Padilha won the pot to send Boika out in third for $697,000.
That left Padilha and Petrangelo to settle the title. After their ICM agreement, the remaining $50,000 went to Padilha along with the trophy, bringing his total payout to $1,400,860.
The result followed Padilha's runner-up finish to Aleks Ponakovs in the $100K Triton Main Event in the Bahamas in 2025.
