When eight players remained, Victoria Livschitz moved all-in for 235,000 holding J♦9♦ from the button. Andrew Lichtenberger called from the small blind with pocket sixes. The board ran out 7♥4♦10♠K♣K♠ to eliminate Livschitz on the bubble, securing payouts for the final seven.
Collopy and Shorr Exit Early in the Money
Mason sent Jim Collopy out in seventh place when his A♣Q♦ outdrew pocket tens. Lichtenberger then knocked out Shannon Shorr in sixth. Shorr had flopped top pair with A♣8♠ on an 8♦2♥3♠ board but lost when the river delivered Lichtenberger’s Q♠.
Mason Builds Momentum with Key Eliminations
Mason continued his run by eliminating Bob Buckenmayer in fifth when pocket kings held against pocket sevens. Soon after, Mason’s A♣J♦ defeated Landon Tice’s J♥9♥ to score another knockout. At three-handed play, Lichtenberger dispatched Joao Simao after flopping a full house with 9♥5♠ on a 9♠5♥9♣ board. Simao’s chips went in with top pair, but he was forced to settle for third place.
Heads-Up Battle: Mason’s Incredible Comeback
Lichtenberger held the chip lead entering heads-up play and extended it further with a well-timed river raise holding A♦9♣ on a J♥4♠4♥3♥9♠ runout. Mason was on the brink of elimination, calling all-in with 9♦6♣ against Lichtenberger’s Q♠6♦. A river straight brought Mason back into contention and changed the course of the match.
After scoring two additional double-ups, Mason grabbed the lead when his pocket sixes held against Lichtenberger’s A-K. The final hand saw Mason all-in with pocket sevens versus pocket sixes. The board provided no help to Lichtenberger, and Mason secured his first live title, $85,750, and a crucial 86 PGT points.
