BCPoker Target Stack Satellites use a different qualification system from traditional satellites. Instead of waiting until the field is reduced to a set number of players, you win an entry as soon as your stack reaches the event’s Target Stack.
Once you qualify, your run in the satellite ends. An amount equal to the Target Stack is removed from play, while any chips above that amount are distributed according to the event rules.
How Target Stack Satellites Work
Players start with a set number of chips and try to build their stack to the Target Stack for that satellite.
For example, if the Target Stack is 20,000 chips, reaching 20,000 is enough to secure an entry to the target event.
The 20,000-chip figure is only an example used to explain the format. The actual Target Stack can vary from one satellite to another.
Traditional satellites usually require players to survive until the field is reduced to a certain number. In a Target Stack Satellite, qualification depends on reaching the required chip count instead.
What Happens When You Reach the Target Stack?
As soon as your stack reaches the Target Stack, you win an entry and leave the satellite.
An amount equal to the Target Stack is then removed from play.
If your stack is larger than the Target Stack when you qualify, the excess chips are distributed among the players involved in the hand where you reached the target.
The excess is split equally. If the split leaves fractional chips, the remainder goes to the first player to act in that hand.
If none of the players involved in the hand remain because they were all eliminated, the qualifying player’s entire stack is removed.
Why Play a Target Stack Satellite?
The lower buy-in gives players a cheaper way to compete for a seat in a more expensive target event.
The format also gives players a clear chip target from the start. Instead of focusing only on how many players remain, they know exactly what stack they need to reach.
Because players leave the tournament as soon as they qualify, Target Stack Satellites can also move faster than traditional satellites.
Can You Win More Than One Seat in the Same Satellite?
No.
Once you win an entry in a Target Stack Satellite, your participation in that event ends.
You cannot enter the same satellite again to try to win another entry, so each player can win only one seat from that event.
What If All Seats Are Won Before Late Registration Ends?
According to BCPoker’s rules, this should not happen.
The formula used to calculate the number of entries also takes into account the chips removed when players reach the Target Stack and win seats.
Because of that, there should still be something to play for until the final entry is awarded.
