Daniel Aharoni captured his first WSOP bracelet after winning the $10,000 Big O Championship at the Paris Ballroom in Las Vegas.
The New York cash game player topped a field of 456 entries and earned the $861,287 first-place prize. It was also his first WSOP event in two years.
Aharoni Returns to the WSOP and Takes the Title
Aharoni’s win came against a final table that featured several accomplished players, including Nick Schulman, Bruno Furth, Sam Soverel, Sean Troha and Scott Clements.
Before the final day began, the field had already been reduced to four players. Scott Clements finished eighth for $80,773, Sam Soverel took seventh for $106,635, and Nick Schulman exited in fifth place for $197,362.
Schulman’s run ended when his pocket aces lost to Bruno Furth, who had flopped a set.
Final Day Belongs to Aharoni
Bruno Furth was the first player eliminated on the final day. He finished fourth for $276,471 after his two pair and nut flush draw failed to improve against Aharoni’s set of tens.
That hand gave Aharoni a commanding advantage. At that point, he held more than twice as many chips as his two remaining opponents combined.
Doug Lorgeree was eliminated next, finishing third for $394,724 after Aharoni’s pocket aces held.
Heads-up play then began between Aharoni and Aaron Kupin. Kupin started the duel with about half of Aharoni’s stack.
On the final hand, Kupin held pocket eights with a straight wrap, flush draw and low draw. Aharoni had a pair of tens and the better low draw. The turn and river did not change the result, giving Aharoni the bracelet and leaving Kupin with a runner-up finish worth $574,168.
